Taking Back Your Digital Home

Have you ever thought about where your photos, emails, and documents actually go when you save them "in the cloud"?

Most of the time, they are sitting on a computer owned by a big company. While that is convenient, it’s a bit like living in a hotel. You can stay there, but you have to follow their rules, they can change the locks whenever they want, and they might even be peeking into your suitcase.

That is why I am starting this blog. I want to talk about Self-Hosting.

What is Self-Hosting?

In simple terms, self-hosting is like moving out of that hotel and into a house you own. Instead of letting a big company store your data, you keep it on your own hardware—right inside your own home.

Why Should You Care?

You don't need to be a computer expert to understand why this matters. Here are three simple reasons why I’m passionate about it:

  • Privacy: When you host your own services, your private information stays private. No one is scanning your files to show you ads.
  • Ownership: You are in control. You don't have to worry about a service suddenly shutting down or losing your favorite features because a company changed its mind.
  • Learning & Fun: It’s a rewarding hobby! It’s like DIY for the digital age. You get to build something with your own hands.

What’s Next?

On this blog, I’ll be sharing my journey of setting up my own digital home. I’ll talk about the tools I use and the lessons I learn along the way.

In fact, to show you what's possible: this entire blog is running on my own self-hosted infrastructure right now!

Whether you are a tech pro or just curious about how to protect your data, I’m glad you’re here. Welcome to the journey toward digital sovereignty!
